P0.2 - Advanced Movement Preview


Hey Shadows fans,

We've implemented 2 new advanced movement abilities - up dash and down dash. These will be unlockable in the magic system in singleplayer and they are triggered with double tapping space, and crouch.

Up dash is a sudden boost of speed in the air, like a double jump, for gaining height. It can be used once in the air, which resets upon jumps, including wall jumps.

Down dash is a sudden burst of downwards force that sends you into the ground rapidly. It can be used for advanced platforming and keeping your movement unpredictable in the air, accounting for the disadvantage created by long parabolic arcs. If it is used from above 5 meters, it does a powerful AOE radius attack at the bottom, damaging enemies around you and killing those unfortunate enough to be caught in the direct hit zone.  

If you aim down sights and look at the ground while down dashing, you go where you are aiming, rather than straight down.

To be clear, these are not going to be for everyone - this is for a certain playstyle. We are going to have a few movement abilities you can find and unlock like combat abilities throughout the world behind various challenges, which can be equipped into certain slots. For example: hovering, gliding could go in the slots for rapid up/down movement. Which would turn you into probably a more effective open world Shroud, effortlessly gliding between rooftops, in exchange for being less gung-ho in combat.

These systems as shown in the video are incomplete - missing VFX, SFX, hit feedback, etc.

I'm going back to bed for a bit (it's 4AM, realized I hadn't posted yesterday while putting the baby to sleep and decided to quickly do a devlog) but, will be polishing this up, finishing unarmed combat (to the degree of completion intended for P0.2*), weapon switching, and hopefully the tutorial today.
