Release Date: Now Available!
Welcome to Prototype 0.3 of Shadows! This update is packed with new combat mechanics, third-person gameplay, AI and performance improvements, and a refined tutorial experience. Check out all the details below:
New Features
Melee Combat
Melee combat is now live! Swap to hand-to-hand combat with the Unarmed weapon or by holding F:
- Hold Right Mouse: Block incoming attacks
- Left Click: Attack
- Chain hits for faster, harder combo attacks
- Sprint Attack to lunge at enemies
- Perfect Block grants 5x damage on the next punch!
Third-Person Perspective
You can now switch between first and third person! Press Tab to toggle between perspectives for a whole new view of the action.
Gameplay Tweaks
- Double-Tap Timings: Improved for reliability across inputs
- Performance Improvements: Significant tweaks and fixes for smoother gameplay
- Lighting Enhancements: Relit scenes across the demo story to enhance atmosphere
Enhanced AI Mechanics
Our AI has been updated for smarter, more reactive responses:
- Improved aim with the ability to target players above/below its line of sight
- Enhanced strafing behavior to keep players on their toes
- Now conserves ammo, waiting until the player is visible to engage
- Auto-retaliates when hit, following a brief stagger
- Added hit feedback animations for visual clarity
Quality of Life Improvements
- Removed redundant footstep sounds during sprinting
- Tutorial Overhaul: Now features step-by-step markers (still in progress)
- Weapon Switcher: Tilde key (

) lets you toggle back to the previous firearm - Revolver Balancing: Slowed rate of fire, increased accuracy for sharpshooting
- 1911 Crosshair: Now displays when aiming down sights to align with the new stance
- New HUD: Health bar added to the bottom left
Bug Fixes
- Fixed weapon switcher interference on player death
- Resolved ADS state sticking after switching weapons
- Fixed miscellaneous AI bugs and increased stability in wave levels
Looking Ahead to Prototype 0.4
While some planned features had to be postponed, we appreciate your patience and support! Our programmer is recovering from pneumonia, and we’re gearing up to bring even more exciting content in Prototype 0.4, including:
- Offhand Abilities and expanded combat mechanics
- New weapons and content
- A microcosm of our open world with a test quest
